Today I went to my first real "Clothing Swap Event" at The Bulli PCYC. What can I say I had so much fun, hours of searching and finding some really unique pieces of clothing, accessories, shoes and bags.
Entry was at 12.30 as we had pre dropped our 30 items of clothing and this gave us early entry to rap a bargain. On arrival we were given a peg with the number of clothes we could swap for and paid our $5 entry fee.
The hall was filled with gazebos for clothes to hang on and tables piled high with clothes. Previously the event had been held at The Balgownie Community Hall but due to interest had been moved to this venue. I could see why, the number of people at early entry was way more than I had expected. After speaking to Shane the organiser said that she had approx. 100 people pre drop their 30 items, thats 3000 items to start the day with. Then Shane estimated that she had another 100 people attend on the day bringing up to 20 items. There was a steady flow of people throughout the day.
So the GreatGong Clothing Swap would've had over 200people com through the doors sorting through about 5000 items of clothing. I think nearly everyone as they left was carrying way more than their quota.
What a huge success the day was. Not only did I get some great clothes but I also met up with some friends that I hadn't seen for a long time and we got to make a bag out of a t.shirt.
I loved the idea of making a bag out of a t.shirt and how simple it was.
Steps to make a T.shirt Bag
What a great way to recycle an old t.shirt, no sewing and anyone can do it.
At the end of this fantastic event all of the clothing that was left over was donated to The Wollongong Homeless Hub
